Dr. John stands with the American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) when he recommends that all children should have their first dentist visit by age one.

When you are searching for a dentist for your toddler's first appointment, a pediatric dentist is always the best option. Our office not only specializes in treating early childhood dental problems, but our job is to make your child feel comfortable and relaxed with their first visit. Our vibrant, colorful facility is designed to make every young patient feel confident and prepared for any appointment.

GET IN TOUCH

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your child's first dentist visit is usually more of a check-up than anything else. At age 1, most toddlers may only have a few teeth beginning to poke through, but it's important that a dentist can check to make sure that primary teeth eruption is normal and on-pace.

The dentist's job is simply to make sure that dental development is occurring regularly and there are not any significant problems with the gums or baby teeth. Dr. John may also perform a quick cleaning or fluoride application if there are stain or if there is a high probability of cavity formation. Not to worry though, both of these are completely normal in young children and our staff is more than happy to walk you through every step of the appointment.

WHAT TO DISCUSS

The first dental visit is an informative opportunity for parents to learn about their child's oral health. During the appointment, Dr. John will address important information about teething, thumb sucking, teeth-friendly foods, and daily oral hygiene. As a parent, you should feel free to ask any questions concerning your child's dental health.

As a pediatric dentistry office, much of our approach is focused on preventative oral care - that means stopping cavities before they form! Before leaving our office, you should have a better idea of how you and your children can work towards that goal. We will provide suggestions for what kind of kids' dental products are the best fit for your child.

DURING THE VISIT

Prior to arriving for your first dental appointment at All Star Pediatric Dentistry, you should refrain from using scary words like "shot" or "hurt." There is no reason to frighten your children about the dentist before they even show up. Our entire staff works effortlessly to make your child feel at ease from the moment they enter our office. If your child still feels nervous for their exam, a parent can accompany them during their entire first appointment. We may even ask that your child sit in your lap to make tooth inspection even easier.

Madelyn loved her first visit. The staff was amazing and made her time in the office fun!

Can’t wait to go back for her second visit!
